Leganés could gain a new Metro station. The Community of Madrid is already studying how to extend Line 11 from La Fortuna to Poza del Agua, a residential area in the municipality. The project is still in the planning phase: there is no final route, no intermediate stations, and no date set for construction to begin.
A New Plan Following the Defense Ministry’s Veto
The Community has amended the contract to draft the southern extension of Line 11 for 689,000 euros. The goal is to study alternative routes, possible connections with other lines, and the necessary environmental documentation.
This move comes after the Ministry of Defense issued an unfavorable report on the initial plan—a tunnel approximately 2.2 kilometers long between La Fortuna and Cuatro Vientos on Line 10—due to its impact on military land.
The alternative currently under consideration locates the future terminal in Poza del Agua. There is a reserve area there—set aside when MetroSur was built, between Puerta del Sur and San Nicasio—that could be utilized for the project.
No construction date, for now
The 2027 regional budget calls for initiating the planning process for the extension of Line L11 toward Leganés, but that does not yet mean construction will begin.
The extension is part of the plan to turn Line 11 into the Metro’s future major diagonal line. For now, what has been confirmed is that Leganés remains on that map and that the extension of Line 11 to Poza del Agua has already moved from the announcement stage to the technical study phase.
