Just an hour from Madrid, the Sierra de Guadarrama is home to a Christmas fairytale village, which has its own market, lighting and traditional festivities. It is Navacerrada, a town of just 3200 inhabitants ideal for a getaway with family or friends during the month of December.
For the Christmas season, the streets are filled with decorations, lights and a traditional market, full of handicrafts and local products. In addition, being located in the mountains and at an altitude of 1200 meters, it often snows, covering houses and buildings with a white blanket.
A month of Christmas market

From December 6 until after Three Kings Day, the Navacerrada Christmas market will remain open for neighbors and visitors. It is organized by the Department of Festivities and you will be able to buy ornaments, ceramic pieces, candles, fashion, crafts and all kinds of gifts. There will also be local gastronomic products, such as cheeses, jams and traditional sweets.
The more than 10 booths that compose it will be deployed along Audiencia Street, which will be decorated with Christmas music and the typical smell of hot chocolate. There will also be shows and activities for both children and adults, although the consistory has not yet announced the program.
A tale among the mountains

Navacerrada is surrounded by mountains, which gives it that magical fairytale character that, accompanied by snow, can remind us of movies like Frozen. Decoration plays a key role, as the streets are decorated in great detail.
Lights, wreaths, garlands and luminous figures are distributed among the squares, lampposts and buildings of the municipality, making it a perfect Christmas getaway destination about 45 kilometers from Madrid .
How to get to Navacerrada

By car, Navacerrada can be accessed via the A-6 to Collado Villalba and, from there, by the M-601 that reaches the port and town center of the town. However, this is not the most advisable option, as there may be a lot of traffic during the Christmas season and even chains may be necessary if there is a lot of snow.
To access by public transport the most direct way is bus 691, which departs from the Moncloa interchange. Another option is to take the C-8 or C-10 commuter line to the Villalba de Guadarrama station, where you can take the same bus line 691.
