This is going to be Audrey Hepburn’s year in Madrid. Not only is a musical in her tribute landing in the capital, but a theater will be inaugurated for its world premiere that will, of course, bear the name of the beloved Hollywood actress.
The iconic star of Breakfast at Tiffany’s (and many, many more big screen hits) left her mark on Madrid during her lifetime (as we’ll tell you later) and her memory will continue to permeate the city’s streets with the opening of the new Espacio Audrey, located in the Ronda de la Comunicación subway station. The project will open its doors to the public on November 27.
A musical as a starting point for the construction of the new theater
Looking for Audrey – The Musical is a fun musical tribute to Audrey Hepburn and the reason behind the opening of the new Espacio Audrey, custom-built for the musical.
The script by actor, comedian and screenwriter José Ignacio Salmerón transports us to Broadway, where a production team embarks on a search for the perfect leading lady for their musical about Hepburn. The music is by composer Fernando Velázquez, author of soundtracks for films such as El orfanato, Ocho apellidos vascos and Lo imposible.
We cannot forget the starring face: the actress, singer and dancer from Zaragoza, Teresa Abarca, already known on the Madrid stage for being the star of productions such as Chicago and West Side Story, will take on the lead role in Looking for Audrey – The Musical.
What will the new Espacio Audrey theater in Madrid look like?

Espacio Audrey will be located in Ronda de la Comunicación, Fuencarral-El Pardo district. This unusual location, far from the epicenter of Madrid’s musical offerings, offers an enormous advantage: the possibility of building, from scratch and custom-made, a 4,500 m2 space.
The Audrey Space will also have three stages and 1,450 seats, 146 of which will be fully rotating, as well as a huge catering area and an “artists’ city”, where there will be dressing rooms, rehearsal rooms, physiotherapy rooms and much more.
How to get to the Audrey Space
The location of Espacio Audrey is very accessible, even though it is not in the center of Madrid. Ronda de la Comunicación is just a few stations away from the Plaza de Castilla metro station (line 10), and the city bus lines 172 and T61 and intercity bus lines 154 and 157C stop next to the new theater, which also has more than 500 free parking spaces.
A walk with Audrey Hepburn in Madrid
This is not the first time the Hollywood icon has visited Madrid: her famous visit to the city in the 1960s, accompanying her husband Mel Ferrer to the filming of El Greco, left us with unforgettable memories. The actress was immortalized by photographer Gianni Ferrari at the door of Mantequerías Leonesas, a grocery store in the Salamanca district.
The star’s tour of the capital also included other legendary corners, such as the mythical Bar Chicote, on Gran Vía, and the Plaza de Las Ventas. This fall, Madrid will celebrate this legacy with art and lots of music in tribute to the eternal Audrey Hepburn.
