Despite the fact that spring is resisting the good weather, many of us are already thinking about the outdoor bathing season. Although there is no beach in Madrid, the city boasts a wide variety of municipal swimming pools. Before the end of June, work will be completed on four of them: the Luis Aragonés (Hortaleza), Peñuelas (Arganzuela), Moscardó (Usera) and Vicente del Bosque (Fuencarral-El Pardo) sports centers.
The residents of Arganzuela recover their swimming pool
Last summer, the Area of Works and Equipment announced that, due to “serious deficiencies in the facilities”, the Arganzuela swimming pool was going to undergo a total remodeling. This affected thousands of residents of the neighborhood, who were left without a place to bathe in the middle of the hot season.
Fortunately, the works will not affect the inhabitants of Arganzuela this year. Three pools that suffered water leaks have already been demolished and galleries have been installed to control the water tightness.

The Hortaleza pool, on the other hand, has been remodeled due to structural and accessibility problems. The learning and swimming pools have been replaced by larger ones: starting this summer, the pool will have a 50×19 meter pool, a 37×20 meter recreational pool and a 14×14 meter splash pool.
In addition, according to the Madrid City Council, “the Hortaleza pool will have compensation pools and a new technical room under the areas surrounding the pools where the water purification, filtering and treatment equipment will be housed”. There will also be new ramps connecting the different areas of the space.
In the case of Moscardó, the municipal swimming pool will have a new perimeter gallery, a correct conditioning of the pool and the beaches, renovated purification facilities and a pergola.
Finally, the comprehensive refurbishment of the Vicente del Bosque municipal center includes the construction of a new pool basin, as well as artificial grass areas with shaded pergolas.
