The works on Tenerife Street, a key artery in the Tetuán district, are now in their final stretch. This autumn, the neighborhood will be able to enjoy a renovated environment dedicated to pedestrian traffic, after a municipal investment of 615,000 euros that has made it possible to transform more than 600 square meters into an area designed for strolling and socializing.
The project covers six blocks, between Carnicer and Castilla streets, divided into three sections with different treatments according to their previous characteristics. The first consolidates a provisional pedestrianization that had already been implemented with the Madrid 360 plan; the second introduces a new section closed to traffic; and the third adopts a single platform that prioritizes pedestrians without completely eliminating vehicular traffic, allowing only essential accesses such as garages or emergency vehicles.
Pavement, lighting and vegetation

The project has not been limited to closing the road to cars. A complete renovation of the paving has been carried out, which now combines ash-colored and sand-colored cobblestones with printed asphalt in the single-platform areas. The sidewalks have hydraulic tiles, differentiated with tactile buttons to improve accessibility.
The redesign has also affected the subway infrastructures, such as the rainwater collection system or the hydrant network, and has given a new look to the street furniture, with five Villa-type street lamps, benches and a whopping seven new trees.
