A “significant reduction in travel times for those people who travel between the north of the city of Madrid and the Henares corridor”. This is what the actions contemplated in the Madrid Cercanías de Madrid informative study will result in. Improvement of the functionality of the Hortaleza-San Fernando de Henares section, included in the Official State Gazette (BOE) of December 30, 2024. And among them is the construction of two new stations of Cercanías Madrid.
These are the future stations of Rejas and Campo de las Naciones, which will allow both residents of the area and visitors to IFEMA and surrounding areas to have a wider range of public transport.
The new Cercanías Madrid stations will be located at the following points:
- Rejas Station. It will be located on the site of the former O’Donnell freight station. It will have four tracks and two central platforms, as well as an access branch to the Vicálvaro freight terminal.
- Campo de las Naciones Station. It will be next to the overpass that connects C/ Silvano with Avenida del Partenón.
All the documentation related to the informative study can be consulted in this link. These actions are part of the objectives of the Sustainable, Safe and Connected Mobility Strategy 2030 of the Ministry.
Beyond the new Cercanías stations: other new public transport developments
As of July 1, 2025, Cercanías will make available to its users a single monthly pass with a price of €20 valid for use in all areas and nuclei of the country. This is one of the new measures coming into force in Madrid this 2025 and you can check more details about it in this link.
On the other hand, Óscar Puente, the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, has announced that he is studying the possibility of implementing a single ticket that can be used to travel on all public transport systems in Spain, as is already the case in other European countries. This would be for 2026.
