There are musicals that tell you a fable, others that tell you a story based on fiction and others that tell you the story of a voice that died out before it was thirty years old. Libre, el musical de Nino Bravo’, which tells and sings the story of Nino Bravo, falls into this last category.
After winning theOFF Award for best original musical, the show arrives in Madrid. It will run from July 9 to August 31 at the Teatro Nuevo Apolo, with performances at 7:30 pm. It is signed by Melomans, a vocal quartet specialized in a cappella that has put its talent at the service of a myth of Spanish popular music.
Who is behind the Nino Bravo musical
Stage direction is by Santiago Sánchez and Víctor Lucas. And although the show is supported by the music -more than 60 songs from Nino Bravo’s repertoire, from Te quiero, te quiero to Un beso y una flor-, the organization assures that what really sets it apart is the way it is told. There is nostalgia, yes, but also a good dose of humor, rhythm, and the occasional cameo by characters playing figures such as Carmen Sevilla or José María Íñigo.
The story of Nino Bravo in musical form
At times it seems like a concert, at times a comedy. But respect for the artist Luis Manuel Ferri Llopis, known artistically as Nino Bravo, who died in 1973 at the age of 28, is always present. His story, brief but dense, serves here as an excuse to celebrate an era of Spanish music and revisit it with a modern approach. Eva and Amparo Ferri, the singer’s daughters, have backed the project.
