The northern lights will arrive in Madrid this Friday, December 15. Or at least, something like them. The Centro de Cultura Contemporánea Condeduque presents an artistic installation that recreates the astronomical phenomenon typical of northern Europe. The show is the brainchild of Dan Acher, who works from Switzerland using art as a tool for social change and has presented his works in major cities around the world.
Borealis will also be accompanied by a soundtrack created by French composer Guillaume Desbois. It can be visited free of charge in the Central courtyard of Condeduque, from 7 to 11 pm. It will be open until December 22.
Madrid, a city with a star’.
Borealis is one of the events framed in ‘Madrid, a city with a star’. This cycle recalls the star that guided the Magi to the birthplace of Jesus and includes five luminous art installations in the districts of Centro, Tetuán, Arganzuela, Barajas and Carabanchel.
Among them, we will be able to enjoy El Regalo, six giant arches in the shape of an extended accordion full of light and color by the Australian studio Amigo & Amigo. The installation proposes a game to visitors: at the base of each of the arches there is an interactive pad that, when jumped, makes the lights and sound shoot through the path of the arch. El Regalo is located in the district of Tetuán, in the Plaza de Pablo Ruiz Picasso.
Also from the same Australian studio we can visit Dulces Navideños, a forest of interactive candy canes distributed in the Plaza de Cristina Arce and Rocío Oña, in the Barajas district. In Arganzuela, the Obelisco Fountain will be decorated with fifty inflatable and illuminated spheres that recreate the Christmas balls of Christmas trees.
The Carabanchel square, in turn, will be decorated with a giant snow globe made by the interdisciplinary artistic center Brava Performing Arts from Girona. Inside it, it will be possible to observe a Christmas winter landscape.
