Next Monday, October 12, Madrid celebrates National Day with an open house at several of its major cultural venues. The Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza are among the options for enjoying art for free during the long weekend.
Museums offering free admission
The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum will offer free admission from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., while the Reina Sofía Museum will also allow visitors to enter free of charge throughout the day. The Prado Museum maintains its usual free admission hours on holidays, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., unless it announces an extraordinary extension.
Free admission to palaces and monasteries on October 12
The initiative also extends to National Heritage sites, such as the Gallery of the Royal Collections, the Monastery of Las Descalzas Reales, and the Monastery of La Encarnación.
Outside the capital, the Royal Palace of Aranjuez and the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial will also be open to visitors free of charge, with admission subject to capacity limits.
