La Quinta de la Fuente del Berro is one of the best climatic refuges during the summer in Madrid. It is a green and cool oasis in the east of the capital that invites you to escape the high temperatures and the urban bustle. Except for one exception, when there is yellow or red alert for adverse weather according to AEMET forecasts, it is closed along with five other parks in Madrid. In this map provided by the City Council you can check the current situation.
This historic park, dating from the seventeenth century, was transformed in the nineteenth century and dazzles flâneur for its lush vegetation, its slopes and, above all, for its beautiful waterfalls and fountains that bring a romantic and refreshing charm to the space.
Within its 13 hectares, visitors can stroll along stone paths flanked by century-old trees such as magnolias, horse chestnut trees, cedars of Lebanon and poplars, which create generous shade and an ideal microclimate for the hottest days.

Water is the soul of the Quinta: its springs have been its great attraction, so much so that Maria Luisa de Orleans, first wife of Charles II, ordered that she should always be served water from this fountain, a custom that was maintained until the waters were contaminated in the 19th century.
Today, the recovered waterfalls and ponds are integrated into a landscape that combines nature and art, with monuments dedicated to literary figures such as Gustavo Adolfo Becquer and Alexander Pushkin, and the free presence of peacocks that add a touch of life and color. The palace of La Quinta, a former playground of the aristocracy, and the Casita del Reloj, complete this unique setting, which was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1946.
Like most of the green areas, the climate here is a little kinder, thanks to the plants and the humidity. So the park becomes, especially in the summer, a haven of peace and beauty, a space where history, nature and culture are intertwined to offer Madrileños a perfect place to stroll and rest. Its intimate character and rich landscape make it a little known gem, but essential for those seeking a natural refuge without leaving Madrid.
