Madrid will have two new commuter rail stations to facilitate the connection between Chamartín and the Henares Corridor. This was announced by the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, via his X profile.
Work has already begun on drafting both projects, which were put out to tender by Adif for a total of 2.18 million euros. The goal, according to Óscar Puente, is “to improve public transportation services and reduce travel time between the Corredor del Henares and Chamartín.”
In this way, the new stops will allow for the creation of a new line that does not require passing through Atocha, reducing travel times and improving train flow. Additionally, they are part of the Madrid Commuter Rail Plan, which seeks to improve the functionality of the section between Hortaleza and San Fernando de Henares, also known as the “bypass route.”
Where will the new stations be located?

Campo de las Naciones will be one of the new stations and will be located between Ribera del Sena and Ribera del Loira streets, near the IFEMA facilities. This business district will thus have a direct public transportation connection.
Meanwhile, the Las Rejas station will be located at the former O’Donnell freight station in the San Blas-Canillejas district. It will serve the Plenilunio shopping center as well as the residential area of the former Ciudad Pegaso, improving rail connectivity in the neighborhood.
A project in development

Although the project’s tender has already been approved, it still needs to be developed, and a Feasibility Study will be required to explore the various factors affecting the stations and determine their final configuration.
The drafting of the projects will include the definitions, dimensions, calculations, and assessments necessary to later launch the bidding process for the construction work. With an initial investment of 2.18 million euros, Madrid is taking another step toward improving its commuter rail network.
