The chocolate palmera is becoming the symbol of Madrid’s pastry scene. The famous heart-shaped sweet even has its own world capital in Morata de Tajuña. The bakeries in this municipality have been making it with mastery since 1978, the year in which the Pastelería de la Torre created a unique variation of the dessert. One of the secrets of the Morateña recipe is to dip the puff pastry in syrup before covering it with chocolate, giving it a very characteristic texture.
This year, six family businesses dedicated to the production of the juicy sweet are once again celebrating a festival in its honor: the seventh edition of the Palmerita Fair, which will turn Morata into the sweetest municipality in Madrid from Saturday 14 to Sunday 15 December, just before Christmas.
Programming of the Palmerita Fair 2025
On Saturday, before the opening of the fair, there will be a chocolatada at 11:00 am organized by the Women’s Social Group of Morata. Then, at 12:00 pm, the Pastelería de la Torre will kick off the weekend of festivities with the distribution of its giant palm tree. From 1:00 pm, there will be parades and even a tango and jazz concert.
The next day, at 12:00 pm, the Palmerita de Oro will be awarded, which each year gives recognition to a figure linked to the development of the municipality of Morata. This time it will be the turn of the chef Cristina Oria to collect the award. At noon, traditional parades will put the finishing touch to the party.
Throughout the weekend there will be an artisan market where you can buy all kinds of handmade products; bouncy castles; food trucks and tours to discover all the secrets of the capital of the palmerita.
In addition, two fairs will be held simultaneously: one of seafood that is organized for the second time in the municipality, and another dedicated to esotericism, which will bring holistic therapies, stands with magical products and more surprises related to energy and wellness.
