If you have Instagram, chances are you’ve seen hundreds of posts about tables lately. Tables with colorful tablecloths and matching cloth napkins, original plates, silverware, quality porcelain… Accounts like Laila Gohar (@lailacooks), Paris Starn (@paris.starn) or the Spanish Blanca Miró (@blancaatable) have created a new need in us: to be the best hosts at our dinners and lunches. To do this, a good way to start is to have beautiful and unique tableware, and ¿what better than a ceramic one??
Gone are the days of spending your paycheck at Zara Home or traveling hundreds of miles to Portugal to buy ceramics: now you can buy high quality pieces at low prices without leaving the Madrid region. Since a couple of years ago several ceramic outlets have been installed in the city where you can buy glasses, plates, bowls and vases by weight at very affordable prices .
the reason for their low prices? The stock of these stores comes mainly from production surpluses or small defects in the pieces, which greatly reduces the final price. If you’re looking to renew your dinnerware or add new acquisitions to the ones you already have, here are 5 Portuguese ceramic outlets to lose yourself in for hours.
To Merchandise
This store, which was founded in A Coruña, now has five large stores in Madrid. The largest of them all in Griñón, where they have a warehouse of more than 500 square meters in which they sell everything from ceramics to Portuguese table linen, glassware and cutlery. A Mercadoría has a large stock of ceramics received from the best factories in Portugal: both stoneware, more resistant due to its firing at 1200º and its low porosity, and earthenware. In its stores you can find rows and rows of the best quality ceramics that are renewed every 15 days, so there are always new jewels to be found.
All information about promotions and new batches they are receiving can be found on their Instagram, @amercadoria_mad.

In its spacious facilities you can find everything: plates, cups, vases, sauce boats, salad bowls and trays, but also glassware and table linen, all made in Portugal made in Portugal.
But perhaps the most striking feature of Martha’s Dinnerware is its prices, which allow savings of up to 80% compared to the price of the original product, and which makes it possible to buy an entire set of dinnerware for four people for 30 or 40 euros.

The Ceramic Officer
La Oficial emerged in 2017 as the materialization of the dream of José Barrio and Toni Torrecillas. This couple, obsessed with Portuguese ceramics, decided to go for imperfect, handmade and sustainable earthenware after one of their many trips to the neighboring country to buy tableware. In addition to their store in the Rastro, they now have a second location in Salesas.
In addition to pieces by weight from surplus stock, La Oficial also sells “artistic interventions”, handcrafted specifically for the store. These pieces, which are sold individually, are made in collaboration with local or Portuguese artists who give a new life to this rejected ceramic. Among his most outstanding “interventions” you can find from a plate of Diana of Wales to tiles with the face of Chus Lampreave, both made by the artist Cristóbal Tabares.
