The central government has announced this Tuesday a new decree law that recovers the 30% state subsidy to public transport, an aid that had been eliminated by Congress last week. The measure is a relief for transport users in Madrid, as it will allow to maintain the reduced fares that were in force until a few days ago.
In the Community of Madrid, this decision will make it possible to recover the 50% discount on season tickets and public transport tickets. This is achieved thanks to the combination of the 30% state subsidy with the additional 20% contribution financed by the Community and the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid (CRTM).
Just a few days ago, the Consortium had announced a possible 30% increase in fares as the Government aid had disappeared, and had set February 10 as the deadline for making a final decision. However, with this new measure, prices are expected to return to the levels of early 2025, leaving the planned increases without effect. The agreement has been carried out after Junts and PSOE have agreed to save part of the measures of the omnibus decree.
The Government has also communicated that, after the Council of Ministers, it has reached an agreement with political representatives that guarantees the final approval of the decree within 30 days, thus avoiding any possible backtracking. According to the announcement, the decree will enter into force tomorrow, once published in the Official State Gazette.
