How often do you have the opportunity to go to an exhibition and have the guided tour conducted by the artist to whom it is dedicated? It is not, of course, the most usual thing, and that is why the exhibition Rafael Canogar [I]Realities [Works 1949-2024] is doubly special: for inaugurating the new program of CentroCentro (Plaza de Cibeles, 1) as a space for contemporary art and for having the honored artist as a guide.
The exhibition, located on the fifth floor, brings together some 60 works by the Toledo-born artist, including paintings, collages and sculptural reliefs dating from 1949 to 2024. In other words, it covers more than 70 years of the career of one of the pioneers of contemporary art in our country.
Most of the works on display come from his personal collection, which is complemented by pieces from other private and public collections, such as that of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.
Guided tours of the Rafael Canogar exhibition

During yesterday’s opening Canogar commented that “For me this exhibition is a gift. I love to exhibit in this emblematic place for Madrid”. And it is precisely there where those who come to the guided tours will be able to see him and the curator of the exhibition, Alfonso de la Torre, on certain dates until the closing of the exhibition.
To sign up, it will be necessary to register in advance. Soon both the inscriptions and the dates and schedules of the visits will be available at this link.
During the event, the artist also made reference to the fact that “the career of an artist is not a goal, it is the path”. A path, that of this exhibition, which after a long artistic career began yesterday and will end next May 18, 2025, just one day after his 90th birthday.
