On May 1st Bosque Real organizes its event among the oaks and pines of Casa de Campo. This artistic platform, as they define themselves, aims to bring art to the natural heritage of Madrid and they achieve this thanks to the events they have been doing since its inception in 2019.
In each edition they have different artists that can be from musicians to writers and with some relevance in the Madrid underground scene. Part of the charm of this platform is that it is truly an immersive event, that is, it is intended that in most of the activities the visitors participate and not only the artists.
Picnic at Puerta del Rey
May 1, 1931. This is the date on which the Casa de Campo opened its doors to the residents of Madrid. This green forest of 1722 hectares belonged to the Crown, forming part of the Royal Site of the Casa de Campo, and only the nobles and royalty themselves enjoyed it…. until that time. It will be 94 years since this anniversary and, for this, the Bosque Real collective will organize a free, popular, country party that will start on May 1 at 12 noon at the Puertas del Rey (King’s Gates). There will be live music (Radio Relativa) and the picnic is up to you.
This year, the Bosque Real collective and Ladelfín Editora are also collaborating in the edition of a book about the sensation of entering a place for the first time, with the collaboration of neighbors and artists. On May 1, 400 issues will be available for those who come to the party.
More plans for the May 2 long weekend in Madrid: concerts, history and traditions.
The May 2 long weekend in Madrid arrives this year with a program full of cultural, historical and musical proposals for all tastes. The city is transformed into a great festive stage with free concerts by artists such as Carolina Durante and Camela on the esplanade of Puente del Rey, zarzuela and traditional music shows, and the awaited historical recreation of the 1808 uprising, with parades, horses, cannons and the defense of the Monteleón barracks.
In addition, Madrid folklore takes center stage with Goyaesque dances and performances by groups such as Arrabel and the Francisco de Goya Association, while theater and the performing arts fill venues such as the Teatros del Canal. There is no shortage of popular traditions, such as the Fiesta de Las Mayas in neighborhoods and municipalities, or concerts and family activities throughout the region, making the week of May 2 an essential date to experience the history and culture of Madrid in the street.
