Madrid Innovation District (MID), the future technology campus of Real Madrid City, is one step closer to becoming a reality: according to information obtained by El Mundo, the Madrid City Council plans to approve the necessary zoning change this Thursday to move the project forward.
This change consists of a Specific Amendment to the 1997 General Urban Development Plan to allow for a change in the land use of the plot, which is currently designated exclusively for private sports facilities.
Once the change is implemented, the MID will serve as a meeting place “where companies, institutions, athletes, entrepreneurs, and citizens will come together […] to promote innovation, knowledge, the development of new technologies, and the attraction of talent, ”Real Madrid explained during the project’s presentation in December 2025.
An area of 85 hectares —equivalent to that of Retiro Park— will be allocated to it out of the total 120 hectares comprising the Real Madrid City, and as a result of the zoning plan amendment, its buildable area will also increase by 170,000 square meters.
What will the Madrid Innovation District (MID) be like?
This so-called “Madrid Silicon Valley” will host companies and research organizations, and“educational and research centers focused on digital skills, artificial intelligence, and datawill be established there,” according to the club.
According to information published by El Mundo, the project—which could become a reality within the next ten years—also calls for the creation of green spaces and recreational areas, a linear park along the Arroyo de la Plata, and pedestrian paths.
