While the undergrounding of part of the A5 road will make the southern neighborhoods of Madrid look different, in the north, Reina Victoria Avenue will also be adapted to the new times starting this summer.
The main objective of the remodeling of the boulevard of Reina Victoria Avenue is to renew the pavement, include more benches and seating areas, as well as incorporating a children’s playground area.
Paloma García Romero, Madrid City Council’s Delegate for Works and Equipment, explained in her announcement this morning that the project will maintain the boulevard’s characteristic longitudinal route, to which another zigzag route will be added. In total, the work will cover an area of 5,149 m² and will last until the summer of 2026.
A renovated and more sustainable boulevard, this is how Reina Victoria will change this summer.
This pedestrian axis in the north of Madrid is an island between two roads, which in principle will be maintained. The big difference is that six new trees will be added to the row of trees and a plant bed on both sides to separate it from traffic. The children’s areas and the bio-healthy areas -which the City Council does not make clear the concept, but if it coincides with that of the Community of Madrid it translates into an area with exercise machines for adults- will have a rubber floor.
In addition to the new street furniture, 13 new LED streetlights will also be added to reinforce the lighting of the boulevard, which until now only had sidewalk lighting.
Among the plans there is also room for poetry, thanks to the proximity of Vicente Aleixandre’s house and taking advantage of the monument to the poet, six stanzas of poems from his work La destrucción o el amor will be included in the transversal paths.
