Due to alleged breaches in the transfer of the commuter rail service in Catalonia, Rodalies, to the Generalitat, Renfe and Adif unions have just called seven days of strike in spring.
There will be five days of strike in March and two in April. For the moment, Renfe has communicated that on March 17 and 26 and April 1 the strike will be total, while on March 19, 24 and 28 and April 3 it will be partial.
The protests will mainly affect commuter and medium distance trains, which will significantly reduce their frequency. Rodalies users in Catalonia are expected to experience major disruptions to rail service. The Spanish Government has committed to establish minimum services during the strike to guarantee the mobility of users.
Why is the strike being organized?
In November 2023, the General Works Councils of Renfe and Adif signed an agreement to be the main providers of Rodalies and Mercancías services. However, the exclusion of the R-1 line from the General Interest Network has been considered a violation of the pact.
According to the unions, the agreement “has a direct impact on Adif’s personnel and workloads”. In this sense, they denounce that the workers have not received any information about the new actions nor have they had any participation whatsoever.
