Luxury is a curious concept because it makes the same trip that anyone can make by car or train for an affordable price an experience that only a few can afford. The Al-Andalus Train, with a price that can reach 10,000 euros per person for a seven-day trip, is a historicist convoy that each season makes the dream of staying in a boutique hotel on rails a reality. This fall, Renfe has announced that the legendary tourist train will arrive in Madrid, thus extending one of its most special itineraries and celebrating its 40th anniversary next year on Spanish roads.
The Al-Andalus was inaugurated in the 1980s, but its cars were originally built in France in the late 1920s to accommodate the British monarchy on journeys between Calais and the Côte d’Azur. After different stages and restorations, its carriages now boast the original art deco splendor, combining fine woods, period lamps, luxury fabrics and 21st century comforts. It includes suites (Grand Class and Deluxe), lounge car, restaurant, piano bar and lounge areas, all arranged for a maximum of 64 passengers per trip, ensuring luxury and personalized service.
The most exclusive train arrives in Madrid
The price includes much more than accommodation: for seven days, travelers have full board with gourmet menus, open bar, guided excursions at each destination, exclusive access to monuments, luxury coach transfers, on-board entertainment and waiter service in the cabin. The classic Al-Andalus route runs through the southern peninsular with stops in Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Ronda, Cadiz, Jerez and other Andalusian gems, but the 2025 season adds Madrid as a new addition, where the train starts or ends its journey.
Despite the high cost, the high demand and the limited number of seats mean that tickets, especially in the Deluxe mode, are sold out months in advance each season.
With its arrival in the capital, the Al-Andalus reaffirms its role as an icon of high-end slow travel and one of the most luxurious tourist trains in the world, capable of combining history, culture, gastronomy, relaxation and exclusive service in an unforgettable week on rails.
