In the purest style of the New York flea markets -or other European events such as Portobello Road or Camden Town in London- a new edition of the Mercado de las Ranas (Frog Market) is coming to Madrid’s Barrio de las Letras this Saturday, October 4, 2025.
The event, promoted by the Asociación de Comerciantes del Barrio de las Letras, will be held continuously between 12:00 and 19:30 on Saturday with more stalls than in previous editions.
Among the stands of stores in the neighborhood you can find jewelry, fashion, books, food, illustration, natural cosmetics, handmade notebooks, handbags or shoes.
Streets where the Mercado de las Ranas is held.

The market will be installed in the sections ranging from number 2 of Huertas Street to its corner with Príncipe Street and continues from the corner of Huertas Street with León Street to its junction with the side of the Trinitarias.
In addition to the stalls themselves, along the route there are many bars and restaurants where you can stop to eat or have a drink between purchases.
A market with a lot of history

The Mercado de las Ranas is closely linked to the neighborhood where it is held, something that is evident in its name: it owes its name to Cantarranas Street -which was how the current Lope de Vega Street was known until 1844-.
In turn, the name Cantarranas was given because, according to tradition, a “very large number of frogs” were grouped in the ponds of the orchards of the convent of San Jerónimo, “which occupied a large part of what is now the Barrio de las Letras”, according to the association.
Next dates
After this weekend‘s event, the Mercado de las Ranas has scheduled another date: it will be next Saturday, October 18, and will have the same uninterrupted schedule.
