The heavy rains, which have lasted almost two weeks without stopping for a single day, have intensified over the weekend. As a result, some rivers in the Community of Madrid have overflowed causing cuts in highways, bridges and roads.
The three rivers with floods during the weekend were the Lozoya river; in the north, in its passage through several municipalities; in the west, the Guadarrama river, at Collado Villalba and the Jarama river; in the south, at Arganda del Rey. This wide distribution throughout the territory has led to the activation of the level 1 flood plan of the Community of Madrid since last Friday. Today the rains are lighter in general, but the incidences are still maintained in at least two points.
Roads cut off in Madrid due to the rains
As reported by the Emergency Service of the Community of Madrid, 112, there are still two roads that remain cut to the north of the territory. The M-611 road in Rascafría and the M-637 in Navafría have not been able to recover to normal traffic after the floods that the Lozoya river has caused in the area.
Traffic has been recovered on the M-620 in Alpedrete, which until yesterday afternoon was still cut off.
The heavy rains will continue this week, and even in the northwest area may turn into snowfall, according to current forecasts of the AEMET. In view of this situation, the Community of Madrid has the INUNCAM campaign, with relevant information to act in these cases. Also, 112 in its X profile informs every few hours about this type of incidents, which could be repeated if the weather situation does not stop.
