Travel beyond Earth and experience the universe aboard the most powerful telescopes in history, such as the Hubble, the James Webb, and the Chandra X-ray Observatory. These space giants will show you the birth of stars, lava-covered exoplanets, and the abyss of a black hole in a navigable three-dimensional environment, always with absolute scientific rigor.
Designed for curious minds, space enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a unique experience in the Nuevos Ministerios area, “Smithsonian Among the Stars” offers a different and breathtaking way to connect with the vastness, mystery, and beauty of the universe. Additionally, the experience is in the running for an award in the Venice Immersive section of the 2026 Venice Film Festival. The gates to the universe have already opened at the Fever Immersive Center: get your ticket here.

What awaits you at Smithsonian Among the Stars?
This adventure combines absolute scientific rigor with an immersive narrative and cutting-edge technology, transforming the mysteries of deep space into something you can see, hear, and feel firsthand.
Using real data and images, the experience transforms 2D astronomical photographs (as iconic as the Pillars of Creation) into fully immersive 3D worlds. Unlike other more passive or contemplative exhibitions, here you aren’t limited to just looking: the barrier between the viewer and the environment is broken so you can fully immerse yourself in space.

Here’s just a sneak peek at what you’re about to experience:
- The adventure begins at the summit of Mount Hopkins in Arizona (home to the Smithsonian’s Whipple Observatory). There, you’ll be greeted by Astro, an astronaut and virtual guide. From there, you’ll set off into space aboard the most powerful telescopes in history to explore the far reaches of our Milky Way.
- Stop by the Sun to feel its full force and witness eruptions thirty times larger than Earth. You’ll be able to hear the actual vibrations of our star and feel the energy that makes life on our planet possible. All of this has been captured by NASA’s historic Parker Solar Probe—the satellite that has come closest to the Sun and remains operational to this day.
- Explore Janssen, the “diamond planet,” an alien world covered in molten lava. You’ll see volcanoes erupting in the distance and the ground cracking open to reveal gigantic, glittering diamond structures. You’ll also discover why Earth has the perfect conditions for life—that delicate balance we know as the “habitable zone.”
- Witness the death of Betelgeuse, a red supergiant star, in a spectacular supernova. Its explosion recycles stellar matter into the building blocks of the universe: the raw material from which stars, planets, and, possibly, life itself are born.
- Peer over the edge of Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole hidden at the center of the Milky Way, and watch as a star falls into its clutches, triggering a thunderous explosion of debris that shoots out across the galaxy.
