For three days, Paracuellos del Jarama will return to its medieval roots. This will take place at the market to be held from April 17 to 19, during which the town will commemorate its connection to the Order of Santiago, which was present for over 300 years.
The historical event will feature more than 90 stalls offering all kinds of crafts, cuisine, and traditional products that seem straight out of a tavern. In addition, there will be demonstrations of ancient trades, music and dance performances , and reenactments for all ages.
Flavors and trades of the past

The medieval market will extend across Plaza de la Constitución and the surrounding streets, where the various stalls will be set up. There will be cured meats, pickles, honey, traditional liqueurs, and hot food, as well as crafts and spaces for children’s workshops.
Of course, there will be plenty of music as well, with entertainment and exhibitions that will evoke the town’s medieval past. In particular, the focus will be on Paracuellos del Jarama’s connection to the Order of Santiago, one of the most important institutions of the Middle Ages.
350 years of history

Like other military orders, the Order of Santiago emerged during the Reconquista, with the aim of protecting pilgrims traveling to Santiago de Compostela and fighting the Muslims on the Iberian Peninsula.
Its presence in Paracuellos del Jarama began in 1190 and lasted for some 350 years, leaving a profound mark on the town. It was not only a defensive stronghold due to its geographical position but also served the Order to collect taxes and agricultural produce.
Thanks to the upcoming medieval market, the Knights of Santiago will symbolically return to Paracuellos and reinforce the town’s identity.
