On Saturday, December 28, the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) announced a drop in temperatures in Madrid between the early hours of Sunday 29 and Tuesday 31. For the first time this winter, the thermometers in the capital have reached -3ºC.
Today, Monday 30, is the coldest day of the week. Between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m., Buitrago de Lozoya and Rascafría have reached temperatures below -5ºC. The district of Barajas, northeast of the capital, has registered -2.9ºC in this same time slot. In the south of the Community of Madrid, Aranjuez has also had minimum temperatures below zero, touching -4ºC.
In the capital, from 12:00 h, thermometers will rise to 10ºC at four o’clock in the afternoon, and then drop to -1ºC in the early morning of December 31. On Wednesday, the first day of 2025, the cold alert will end.
The Community of Madrid invites the population (especially the elderly) to take precautions before the drop in temperatures: put on several layers of clothing, consult the weather before going out, keep the windows tightly closed inside the house and, of course, have a heat source in the rooms.
These measures prevent illnesses caused by the cold, which can severely affect people with chronic respiratory diseases, infants and the homeless or economically deprived.
