Madrid is all set for this Sunday’s marathon, half marathon, and 10K race . The famous orange markings guiding the route have already been painted on many of the downtown streets, and now all that’s left is to wait for the big day.
More than 45,000 runners from around the world will arrive in the capital to compete in the 48th edition of the “Zurich Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Madrid,” and with just a few days to go, the weather forecast has become one of the major concerns for the competition.
From summer heat to rain

After a sunny week with temperatures typical of early summer, forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) indicate that “thunderstorms and showers” will arrivein many parts of Spain in the coming hours.
Starting this Thursday, April 23, the Community of Madrid will experience a significant change in weather, as clouds will increase, along with the chances of rain and thunderstorms. According to the Aemet website, there will be a 100% chance of precipitation this afternoon.
Unstable weather will continue through Friday and Saturday, with the start of the weekend marked by cloudy skies and intermittent rain. On Saturday, rain and occasional thunderstorms will persist; according to the weather agency, these will be more intense and frequent in the mountains.
A break on Sunday

With this forecast, all eyes are on Sunday, the day of the highly anticipated Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Madrid Marathon. Unlike previous days, the sky is expected to be clearer, with no rain or storms.
The Aemet forecast for the early morning hours is“skies veiled by high clouds,”which shouldn’t prevent the race from starting. The race will begin at 8:00 a.m. for the 10K runners and at 8:45 a.m. for the marathon and half-marathon runners.
Thus, although rain is expected in the coming days, the weather conditions will not affect Sunday’s races and will allow participants to enjoy the sporting and musical atmosphere that characterizes the event.
