The Community of Madrid approved last month the working calendar for 2026, which establishes the holidays that will be in place for the coming year. Of the usual fourteen holidays, twelve are regional -and they have already been fixed-, while another two of local character were pending to be announced. And the City Council of the capital has already made a statement on the matter.
As reported by the Madrid Consistory, with regard to the municipality of Madrid, the other two days chosen as local holidays in 2026 have been May 15 (on the occasion of San Isidro Labrador) and November 9 (for the Virgin of the Almudena).
Both, in addition, will allow the addition of two more long weekends to those already planned, since they fall on Friday and Monday, respectively. The first of these can be enjoyed from May 15 to 17 and the second from November 7 to 9.
2026, a year with eight long weekends

With these two holidays added to the 2026 work calendar, a total of eight long weekends are distributed throughout the year, during which you can take advantage of either to stay in the capital during the celebration of some of its most important holidays or, failing that, to make that getaway that you have been postponing for some time.
Those that have now been announced are added to the list of national and regional holidays, which is configured as follows:
- January 1 (Thursday): New Year’s Day
