The demand for green spaces in Madrid continues to grow, and on this occasion, more than 1,000 trees will be planted in a southern municipality: Móstoles. The initiative responds to a long-standing request from residents and will include more resistant species, as reported by the Móstoles City Council.
The new trees will be planted in the PAU-4 neighborhood , with an investment of more than €165,000. As Mayor Manuel Bautista explained during a visit to the area last Wednesday, the aim is to “improve the environment with more green spaces and implement improvement policies in each neighborhood.”
More gardens in the streets

The renovation began on Géminis Street and its surroundings, extending the plantings to Piscis, Capricornio, Acuario, Libra, Osa Menor, Estrella Polar, Aries, and Camino de Humanes streets .
Despite the rains in recent weeks, the council reported last Wednesday that there were already 510 new trees in the municipality. To ensure their maintenance, they have opted for highly resistant species such askoelreuteria, celtis, pirus, melias, and liquidambar.
All of these are deciduous trees, as they lose their leaves in winter, and are ideal due to their ability to survive pollution, pruning, and extreme climates (high temperatures in summer and frost in winter).
The environmental commitment

With this new project, Móstoles is consolidating its commitment to the environment, which is also reflected in the municipal budget. During his visit to the PAU-4 neighborhood, the mayor took the opportunity to point out that investment in the environment had been increased with the aim of improving the quality of life of the residents of Móstoles.
In total, the City Council has set aside €13.9 million for green areas and has increased the budget for daily cleaning and waste collection by 15%. In addition, further measures are planned to care for the environment in the town.
