Buying a townhouse for less than half a million euros seems a utopia in Madrid. According to a recent study by Fotocasa in the first quarter, the Community has experienced one of the largest quarterly and year-over-year increases in housing prices in history. No more and no less than 5.2%, two points below the Balearic Islands, the territory where mortgage prices have increased the most.
The average price per square meter in Madrid is €4,215, a figure that is seven times higher than in our neighboring provinces. Among them Guadalajara, where we find the third town with the cheapest square meter of all Spain: Mondéjar. The Fotocasa Real Estate Index reflection that this town of Castilla-La Mancha takes the bronze medal for the most affordable town to buy a home. 648 euros per m². In the first positions of the Index, we find two towns of Jaén; the second is for Carolina (637€), and the first, for Villanueva del Arzobispo (641€).
In Mondéjar we can find townhouses that exceed 100 square meters for less than 90,000€, something almost unthinkable in the Community of Madrid. And the best part: it is only one hour and ten minutes by car from the capital. In addition, there is a bus, specifically the 326 Argabús (ALSA), which goes from the town to the Mediterráneo Avenue (Conde de Casal). The trip takes approximately two hours and twenty minutes.
The charms of Mondéjar

and what does Mondéjar have besides affordable prices? For those who enjoy cultural tourism, this La Mancha town hides treasures from the sixteenth century, when it was an important marquisate within the province of Almoguera. Some of these jewels are the ruins of the Convent of San Antonio and the church of Santa Maria Magdalena, of Renaissance tendency.
Currently, Mondéjar has about 2,600 inhabitants, a good number for being in the quiet natural region of La Alcarria. This Zone stands out for its routes, some of them archaeological, such as Cantarranas (Lower Paleolithic) or the Bridge over the Tajuña (Christian Islamic).
