2026 kicks off with more different plans than the traditional ones that put an end to Christmas. After the mythical New Year’s concert, the parade or the Day of the Three Kings, it seems that the holidays are over and that there is only a long January back to routine.
But in Torrejón de la Calzada, a town located half an hour from Madrid, they are not waiting two weeks to continue with the celebrations. From January 16 to 18 they organize their medieval market and transform their historic center into a place from another era.
Crafts, shows and gastronomy

On the occasion of the day of its patron saint, San Sebastián, which is celebrated on January 20, Torrejón de la Calzada will fill its streets with more than 50 craft stalls. You can buy ceramic, leather, wood or jewelry creations and there will also be workshops and games, with which children can learn how were the trades of the Middle Ages.
The core of the market will be the Plaza of Spain, and around it will be deployed the various booths and activities. There will also be musical shows, entertainment and theater, which will provide a truly immersive experience.
In addition to shopping and time travel, you can also eat in the medieval sample itself, as there will be spaces for traditional cuisine, with sweet and savory flavors for all tastes.
The oldest tradition of the municipality

This is not the first year in which the medieval flea market is held in Torrejón de la Calzada, as it has already established itself as part of the program of the Fiestas de San Sebastián, the oldest tradition of the town.
The mass and procession are repeated every year and, although it is not religious, the setting of the Middle Ages also brings its atmosphere to the festivities. It allows to pay homage to the roots and remember the past, combining history, popular culture and entertainment options.
How to get to Torrejón de la Calzada

From Madrid, the journey by car usually takes a little over half an hour and is accessed by the A-42, from the Toledo highway, or also by the R-5 as a toll alternative to avoid the busiest traffic days.
By public transport it takes longer, reaching 55 minutes by bus. The easiest option is the interurban lines 460, 463, 464 and 466 from Plaza Elíptica.
