The Madrid municipality of Leganés will be transformed, from Friday, May 29, to Sunday, May 31, 2026, into a traditional scene of early 19th-century Madrid for a new edition of its Goyesque Market: a period event featuring “parades, continuous entertainment, children’s games, and a curated selection of craft and food stalls inspired by the Goya era,” according to the Leganés City Council.
The opening of this market, which aims, among other things, to connect local residents with their roots and history by transporting them back to that historical period, will take place on Friday the 29th at 6 p.m.
As a new feature this year, although the Goyesco Market will continue to be held in the San Nicasio neighborhood, the location chosen this time will be different: it will be set up in Plaza del Milenio, next to the San Nicasio MetroSur stop, “offering a more spacious and comfortable area for strolling.”
A weekend steeped in history in Leganés

In addition to the Goyesque Market, which will remain open until May 31, the rest of the weekend will feature two other historical events that were originally scheduled for the beginning of the month but had to be postponed due to rain.
This is the case with the tribute and reenactment of the story of Julián and Leandro, the Rejón Brothers —local heroes of May 2, 1808—in the Plaza de la Ermita de San Nicasio. It will be on Saturday the 30th at 5:30 p.m.: first, a floral offering will be made inside the chapel, and then they will parade to the Plaza Mayor.
That same day at 7:00 p.m., the Fiestas de las Mayas, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest by the Community of Madrid, will be celebrated in the Plaza Mayor. Altars from the Regional Houses of Leganés will be on display, folk groups will perform, and wine and traditional sweets will be distributed.
