If the problem before was leaving your wallet at home, now the problem will be running out of battery. Madrid activates today, Tuesday, November 19, the possibility of incorporating the transport card for ten-trip tickets, tourist passes and the supplement to go to the airport. The functionality will only be available for cell phones with Android 7.0 system or higher with NFC technology and Google Wallet activated.
The app is free to download for the next six months through the Play Store: the name of the app is Transport Card. Once installed and linked to a bank card, travelers will be able to purchase their ticket and access services by bringing their mobile close to the readers, without needing to carry the physical card.
“We have a transport that is always alive. This is the first step to integrate the transport card fully on the mobile throughout 2025, we are designing the transport of the future in all its mobilities and in all its options”, said Isabel Díaz Ayuso yesterday during the gala dinner of the International Congress on Sustainable Mobility ‘Global Mobility Call’.
According to the authorities, then, this initiative is the first step towards the total digitization of the transport card by 2025, seeking to improve the experience of sustainable mobility in the capital. Of course, it is advisable to make sure you have battery in your cell phone: it is now your new ticket.
