From the authentic folklore of the neighborhood fortune-teller, to that friend who suddenly pulls out a deck of cards during an after-dinner chat, to the skepticism of those who swear they don’t believe in anything until they’re dealt the Devil—this city has been playing with the tarot for generations. And now it’s adding a fun twist with the arrival of Twisted Tarot Madrid, the new show where tarot meets live comedy in a former movie theater in Chamberí. What is Twisted Tarot?
A night of mystical comedy with group tarot readings. That’s what Twisted Tarot is—the result of the clash between two disciplines where the audience experiences all kinds of emotions: from a slight nervousness to the most spontaneous laughter. There’s no script here, and no actors either—just a professional tarot reader and a comedian who reacts to whatever comes up in each spread. And yes, the volunteers are chosen from the audience itself… Could you be next?
Tarot: What the Cards Know About You
Tarot doesn’t predict the future; it shows you something you already knew but didn’t want to face. The complete deck consists of 78 cards —22 Major Arcana, which address life’s big themes, and 56 Minor Arcana, which deal with everyday problems—and each one puts a name to something: perhaps a relationship, a fear, or a decision you’ve been putting off for weeks. Some people believe that even the way the cards fall isn’t a coincidence. And then there are those who don’t believe in any of this, but enjoy the experience nonetheless. Especially if it’s at Twisted Tarot!
And part of the fun is that the comedian is just as in the dark as you are: he doesn’t have a single joke prepared, but discovers the tarot spread at the same time as the audience. The experience lasts 75 minutes, comes with a cocktail included, and is for adults only.
