The Usera neighborhood now has its new entrance arch, an Asian-inspired structure topped with brightly colored geometric figures. The installation, which in its final stages required the use of heavy machinery to secure the pieces to the portico, is the work of artist Okuda San Miguel.
Symbols of Integration
The sculpture has been named “ Two Cultures in Love.” Its design directly references the coexistence and historic integration that the Chinese community has fostered in this part of the capital.
To illustrate this social bond, the work features two representative figures that crown the structure: a traditional Asian dragon climbing up the pillars and a bear, both recreated using the multicolored polygonal shapes that characterize the artist’s work.
After the assembly work on the street is completed, this new neighborhood landmark will hold its official inauguration on October 1.
