For those of us who live in the capital, running errandsin a neighborhood market or in itinerant street markets is already part of the plans that we must do in Madrid at least once in a lifetime. Buying in one of those that are scattered around the city we help the local producer in addition to getting authentic delicacies to surprise when guests are at home.
Luckily for the neighbors of Vallecas, the City Council has awarded the Federation of Cooperatives and Social Economy of Madrid (FECOMA) the new Municipal Producers’ Market which will open its doors on the second Saturday of each month at avenida del Ensanche de Vallecas..
Starting September 14, the 33 stalls at the market will be open for visits from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. They will havefruits, vegetables, meats, sausages, sweets and even some herbal products.
More similar markets in Madrid
Madrid’s farmers’ markets try to bring organic and artisanal products closer to the inhabitants of the capital. Most of these products come from Madrid fields, to encourage proximity consumption. Also, occasionally, they sell differentiated foods from other communities (black pudding from Burgos, Galician beef…).
The one in Vallecas is not the only market with food grown, raised or processed in Madrid and surroundings. Valdebebas, Alcobendas and the Planetario neighborhood also organize their own on some Sundays.
