After a Monday – Epiphany eve – that has left us snowfall patterns in various parts of both the capital and the rest of the Community of Madrid, the eyes are set on the weather that will make this January 6, which will also be very cold as a result of the Francis squall.
In the case of our Community, the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated the yellow warning for minimum temperatures in the mountains between 00h and 8:59h on Tuesday and Wednesday January 7, with temperatures of up to -6ºC.
These are not the only temperatures below zero expected in the region: in lower latitudes the mercury will also mark negative values. In Madrid capital city, minimum temperatures of -1ºC are expected; in Getafe -2ºC; in Navalcarnero, Alcalá de Henares and Collado Villalba -3ºC and in Aranjuez -4ºC.
The wind chill will also be several degrees below the mercury, reaching -5ºC in the capital, -8ºC in El Escorial or -12ºC in Somosierra and Cercedilla. Thus the forecast, the weather invites to stay at home to enjoy a good roscón and the gifts left by the Kings on the night of Monday to Tuesday.
What is the snow forecast for Epiphany in the region?
The AEMET warnings for snowfall at low altitudes will no longer be active on Epiphany -in fact they are not from 10 am this Monday-, but in some areas of the Community of Madrid and the mountains there is some probability of precipitation in the form of snow:
Probability of snow between 6h and 12h.
- El Escorial: 5%.
- Cercedilla: 10%.
- Rascafría: 5%.
- La Cabrera: 10%.
- Somosierra: 20%.
Probability of snow between 12h and 18h
- Cercedilla: 10%.
- Rascafría: 15%.
- La Cabrera: 5%.
- Somosierra: 10%.
Winter Plan of the Community of Madrid
Since last December 1, the Special Civil Protection Plan for Winter Inclement in the Community of Madrid has been in place, which aims to “address the different risk situations for the population caused by adverse weather conditions”.
Among other resources, it includes the option of downloading the My112 application -which you can find in this link- with which it is possible to recover the course that a person has traveled during the last hour. This tool is especially useful for locating missing persons or on mountain and forest routes.
On the other hand, among the recommendations to be taken into account, the weather forecast and the state of the roads should be consulted in official sources , and in case of having to travel by car it is essential to carry a full tank and chains or winter tires, a charged cell phone, warm clothes and some food.
