Lead-colored skies, drizzle for days, and lows hovering around 0 °C, the weather in Madrid is the perfect description of winter. For this weekend, the AEMET does not guarantee that snow will settle in Madrid city on Saturday, but it does leave the door open for some flurries, especially in the higher neighborhoods and at times of heaviest precipitation. The key will be the snow level, which during the day may fall below 600 meters due to the arrival of polar air associated with storm Ingrid.
Official snow warnings are concentrated in the Sierra, where accumulations of more than 10 centimeters are expected above 1,000 meters. In the rest of the Community, a significant drop in temperatures is expected on Saturday, and the snow level could range between 700 and 400 meters throughout the day.
Could it snow in Madrid?

With a forecast snow level from Friday to Saturday that could drop to 600 meters and even around 400 meters at times, Madrid city enters the range where it could see snow, because the capital is 657 meters above sea level, at least in the form of sleet or flakes mixed with rain. AEMET speaks of an open scenario: models suggest that, if the coldest time of the day coincides with the most intense showers, light snowfall cannot be ruled out in unusual areas, including the city center.
After the winter weather, very cloudy skies and light to moderate rain, the highs will begin to rise from Sunday. Next week, it will be over 10ºC almost every day, and the cold seems to be easing.
