In 2025, in order to reduce travel times and the noise of trains running on metro line 6, works will be carried out , which will last (in principle) six months. Therefore, from June to September the section between Moncloa and Méndez Álvaro stations will be closed. From the end of September to December, the stations between Moncloa and Legazpi will be closed.
The new L6 will replace the wooden sleepers and blocks on a concrete platform with a superstructure of the latest generation of slabs. It will also have an optimized layout and an automatic circulation model. Yes, there will be driverless trains from next year to ensure a faster service (it is expected that waits will not exceed two minutes).
These refurbishments are part of Metro de Madrid’ s Strategic Plan, which will extend and modernize the entire Madrid railway network up to the year 2030. The main objectives of the project are to multiply by five the regularity of journeys, achieve a more homogeneous ride and increase the capacity of passengers per hour.
Line 6 of the Madrid Metro is one of the busiest circular routes in the city. It connects 28 strategic stations. Among them, three key points with integrated bus terminals: Moncloa, Avenida de América and Méndez Álvaro. These stations allow direct connection with other areas of the Madrid region and Spain without the need to go outside, which makes them key transport hubs. In addition, L6 facilitates travel from outlying neighborhoods to areas close to the center of the capital, providing fast and efficient access to multiple urban areas.
