The Community of Madrid has made its fleet of intercity buses available to the Ministry of Transportation and the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha to assist in the response to the train accident that occurred on Wednesday, October 28, in the province of Toledo. According to the regional government, the vehicles are ready for immediate deployment should the authorities in charge of the operation require their assistance.
The offer covers three functions: evacuating passengers, providing emergency transportation, and covering by road the routes affected by the interruption of rail service. The provision of the buses does not, in and of itself, amount to the launch of an alternative service with established routes and schedules.
Fire departments and SUMA 112 join the effort
This transportation support is in addition to the emergency resources dispatched from Madrid. The Community has announced the deployment of eight firefighting crews and eight additional SUMMA 112 units to assist in the response. For its part, Castilla-La Mancha has elevated the Territorial Emergency Plan (PLATECAM) to Operational Level 2 for the province of Toledo and has requested the activation of the Military Emergency Unit.
The accident has forced the suspension of high-speed rail service between Madrid, Ciudad Real, and Andalusia. For affected passengers, the availability of these buses serves as a support resource for the operation, but it does not guarantee a seat or a specific connection. Before going to a station or looking for a departure point, passengers should check announcements from the relevant rail company and follow the instructions of passenger service staff.
