The future development of 166 affordable rental apartments of the Municipal Housing and Land Company of Madrid (EMVS) in Mahou-Calderón, in the district of Arganzuela, already has a name(Gardens for an acrobat) and who (or rather who) will give it shape.
Of the 35 proposals submitted to the competition, that of MADC & Partners SLP, Pereira-Royo Arquitectos S.L. and Alonso Hernández Asociados Arquitectura S.L. has been chosen as the winner by a professional jury composed of members of COAM, EMVS Madrid and prestigious architects.
The shape, by the way, will be a “U” and will have a central garden. It will not be the only one: to give access to the dwellings there will be two sets of garden squares stacked high. In addition, all of them will have cross ventilation.
The strengths of the project

The jury particularly valued aspects of the proposal such as “the diagonal entrance, the continuous block, the U-shaped layout and the simple and functional housing typologies“.
The delegate for Housing Policies and president of EMVS Madrid, Álvaro González, highlighted that “not only will it add 166 new affordable rental homes for the people of Madrid, but it will also bring an avant-garde architectural element to the neighborhood“.
Antonio Giraldo, spokesman for Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility of the PSOE of Madrid in the City Council, has also joined in the praise, stating in these terms in his X profile: “Surely one of the best developments of EMVS“.
The list of awards goes on and on
One of the studios involved in the proposal, MADC & Partners SLP, is already familiar with awards: this month it received one of the Architecture 2025 Awards organized by the Higher Council of Architects’ Associations of Spain (CSCAE).
The award, in the Sustainability and Health category, has highlighted his project for the the Mil Soles library located in the Butarque neighborhood (Villaverde).
