In December 2024, the residents of Carabanchel had the opportunity to vote in the citizen participation platform ‘Decide Madrid’ in favor of a Regulated Parking Service (SER) zone in Comillas. One month later, the Madrid City Council confirms that new parking meters will be installed in order to facilitate parking for the residents of the neighborhood.
The decision to regulate parking in Comillas has obtained 86.2% of support from the neighbors who participated in the vote: more than 2,200 residents over 16 years of age marked “yes” in the survey. Almost 50% of them stated that it takes more than half an hour to park in their neighborhood (only 23.44% get parking in less than 15 minutes), highlighting the need for more SER zones in the district.
Comillas has followed the example of other peripheral areas such as Almendrales, Moscardó and Pradolongo, which have expanded their SER zones this winter. The three neighborhoods have 6,459 more regulated parking spaces than in 2023, most of them designed for the residents of Usera.
Residents of the Zofío and Opañel neighborhoods are mobilizing to start a petition in favor of parking meters in both zones. Meanwhile, citizens of Carabanchel can request authorization to park in SER zones near their homes. This can be done through the Internet, at the Gestiones y Trámites del Servicio de Estacionamiento Regulado portal.
