In July of this year, the Madrid City Council began to impose fines of 200€ ( 100€ in case of prompt payment) on A-rated cars not registered in the capital, cars without an environmental label and those not registered for the Vehicle Tax (IVTM) that try to enter the city.
From January 2025, it is planned that the penalty will also apply to vehicles without an environmental label registered in Madrid. However, Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida declared yesterday, Wednesday, December 11, that there could be exceptions. He gave the news in Villaverde, after an event on investments aimed at the development of the southeastern districts.
Almeida has confirmed that Borja Carabante, delegate of Urbanism, Environment and Mobility, is going to bring to the Governing Board a report on the current situation in the capital, to assess specific cases in which a vehicle without an environmental label can enter Madrid. Almeida has stated that the delegate will take into account the environmental and economic impact of the restrictions.
According to the mayor, it is necessary to“evaluate and allow the circulation of certain vehicles without environmental label if it is compatible with the preservation of air quality”, since last November there was a historic drop in pollution.
