The rail transport map in Madrid is changing, and in addition to the metro expansions that will expand the subway network in the coming years, the Madrid Commuter Rail plan is also in the process of adding new stations to improve service for passengers. One of these future stations is the one that Adif announced this week it will build in Campo de las Naciones.
The station, as the company explained in a statement, will be located “between Ribera del Sena and Ribera del Loira streets, along an existing straight alignment of the bypass track, and in the vicinity of the IFEMA facilities.”
However, this may not be the final location: before beginning to develop the project, a Study of Alternatives must be conducted to select the best possible solution, which will ultimately determine the final configuration and location of both this station and the one Adif has also put out to tender in Las Rejas.
With the construction of both, the goal is to create a direct commuter rail service to the Chamartín-Clara Campoamor station, which will result in significant time savings for passengers heading to the north-central area of Madrid, as it will allow them to avoid the current route through Atocha.
The tender contract for both stations—which could receive funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)— has a budget of over 2 million euros, which will make it possible to “improve public transportation service in the neighborhoods adjacent to the outer loop line, which runs between Chamartín and the Corredor del Henares.”
The end of a transfer, a benefit for passengers

One of the benefits that the construction of this IFEMA commuter station will bring to its future users is the ability to say goodbye to the transfer they currently have to make to reach Chamartín station, as there is currently no direct connection.
Those wishing to travel from IFEMA to Chamartín by metro or commuter rail face a journey of just over 20 minutes that always requires a transfer: taking metro line 8, the options then involve using commuter rail lines C-10, C-3, or C-4b.
