The rail line on which the commuter rail service between Soto del Real and Colmenar Viejo will operate is one step closer to becoming a reality: the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, through Adif, has already begun installation work to get it up and running.

Construction has begun in the area surrounding the Soto del Real station and will continue to progress gradually toward Colmenar Viejo. According to the ministry led by Óscar Puente, this phase will involve “the installation of ties, rails, and ballast, which will form the new rail infrastructure on which the commuter trains will run.”
In addition, in the phase leading up to this work, the platform was widened to 13 meters so that it can accommodate double tracks in the future “if demand makes it necessary.”
The extension of Line C-4b to Soto del Real
Once this phase is complete, the next steps to get the line up and running will involve electrifying the track and renovating and remodeling the historic Soto del Real station building —built in 1955 and designated a Site of Cultural Heritage Interest—to transform it into the new Soto Sur commuter rail station, with an investment of 15.8 million euros.
The goal of this future service is to strengthen public transportation options in the northern corridor of the Community of Madrid and improve the connection between Soto del Real and the Sierra Norte with the Madrid metropolitan area.
In total, some 75 million euros have been invested to reach this new milestone. As for the launch of the service, there is still no official date on the horizon.
