Summer in the capital, while it has its advantages, comes with a very familiar—and very annoying—reality for anyone who can’t escape Madrid in August: public transit construction. This month, it’s the turn of Lines 6 and 7, on which Metro de Madrid will temporarily suspend service on certain key sections.
Service will be suspended on the western quadrant of the circular line starting at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1. Moncloa Station will be closed all day. In addition, the connection between Argüelles and Ciudad Universitaria will remain out of service until September 2.
Meanwhile, on Line 7, the section between Gregorio Marañón and Pitis ( affecting eleven stations) will be closed from this Sunday, August 2, through August 28.
Thus, the closures on lines 6 and 7 will be in addition to those on lines 10 and 9B; the latter will continue until August 21 and August 13, respectively. According to the Madrid Regional Transportation Consortium, while the lines remain closed, work will be carried out with the aim of“renovating the facilities and enhancing safety”in order to “provide better service.”
The EMT’s free replacement bus service
To maintain service on the sections affected by the construction, the EMT will operate special bus lines SE6 and SE7, which will run every day of the week. Access to these buses will be free.
The special SE6 line between Ciudad Universitaria and Argüelles
Five buses will be assigned to the SE6 line, which will connect the Ciudad Universitaria and Argüelles stations. The buses will run every six minutes on weekdays and every seven or eight minutes on Saturdays and holidays.
The first bus will depart at 6:05 a.m. from both terminals, in accordance with the metro’s regular opening hours. The last bus will depart at 2:12 a.m. from Ciudad Universitaria and at 1:48 a.m. from Argüelles. More specifically:
- In the direction of Argüelles, buses will depart from Avenida de la Complutense, across from the School of Medicine (stop 1688). They will make an intermediate stop at Plaza de Moncloa (stop 740) and end their route at Calle de la Princesa, 55 (stop 51136).
- In the direction of Ciudad Universitaria, buses will depart from Calle de la Princesa, 55 (stop 51136), make an intermediate stop at Paseo de Moret, 1, next to Plaza de Moncloa (stop 15525) and will end their route at stop 1687, next to the School of Medicine, located on Avenida de la Complutense.
The special SE7 line between Gregorio Marañón and Pitis
The EMT will deploy nineteen buses to cover the section between Gregorio Marañón and Pitis until work on Line 7 is completed. These buses will run every seven minutes on weekdays and every nine minutes on Saturdays and holidays.
As with the SE6 bus line, buses on the SE7 line will also begin running at 6:05 a.m., when the metro normally opens. The last departure will be at 1:33 a.m. from Pitis and at 1:58 a.m. from Gregorio Marañón.
Buses will depart early in the morning from the stations Pitis, Peñagrande, Antonio Machado, Francos Rodríguez, and Guzmán el Bueno. In the opposite direction, they will depart from Gregorio Marañón, Canal, Francos Rodríguez, and Antonio Machado.
