As a final note to the summer cinemas, the Railway Museum of Madrid celebrates the 60th anniversary of the legendary Hollywood film Doctor Zhivago with a free screening that will transport attendees to the summer of 1965, when the old Delicias station was transformed into the great Moscow station of the film. The event will take place on September 11, starting at 8:00 p.m., on the façade of the museum itself, with free access until full capacity is reached and with prior registration, in an open-air summer cinema format.
The film, directed by David Lean and starring Omar Sharif, Julie Christie and Geraldine Chaplin, was a milestone in the history of cinema and, for many Madrilenians, an unforgettable moment: several of its most emblematic scenes were shot precisely on the platforms, corridors and corners of the Delicias station.
Thanks to the collaboration between the Fundación de los Ferrocarriles Españoles and various cultural institutions, the event not only pays tribute to a film classic, but also to the heritage value of this railway enclave.
Inside Doctor Zhivago in Madrid

The evening is complemented by free access, from 18:00, to the temporary exhibition Zhivago Station. 60 years of an epic filming. This exhibition brings together large-format photographs, many unpublished, original production documents, press clippings of the time and even the correspondence between the writer Miguel Delibes and the production company Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, for which he adapted the dialogues into Spanish.
The public will also be able to enjoy a video documentary with testimonies of relevant figures, such as Víctor Matellano, Jesús Marchamalo and Ricardo Huertas, among others, who participated in or researched the film.
During the screening, food and drink food trucks will be set up, allowing the day to become a true celebration of cinema and collective memory. The film will be broadcast in original version with subtitles, tickets can already be purchased online, and seats will be assigned on a first come, first served basis until the available capacity is reached.
