The historic total solar eclipse that will be visible on August 12, 2026, doesn’t really need any extra ingredients to be the astronomical event of the century, but in the Madrid municipality of Pezuela de las Torres—just one hour from the capital—they have an added attraction: watching it in their lavender fields.
This is the proposal from the Pezuela de las Torres City Council for this unforgettable day, so that anyone can “enjoy the solar eclipse in a setting as special as the town’s lavender fields,” according to the council.
The event, however, will not be limited exclusively to August 12: starting on the 10th, educational and observation activities have been scheduled to bring astronomy closer to residents and visitors.
Full schedule for the eclipse in Pezuela de las Torres
Monday, August 10
- Children’s workshop on astronomy and eclipses. From 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. La Posada Cultural Center.
Tuesday, August 11
- Eclipse Information Point. Rebeca Bartolomé Park. Hours: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, August 12
- Information Desk. Rebeca Bartolomé Park. Hours: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Eclipse viewing area. From 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The area is located behind the Palomar de La Cerca.
The eclipse will begin at 7:36 p.m. and reach its peak at 8:32 p.m.

Information for planning your visit
If you’re driving to Pezuela de las Torres, the City Council has provided parking accessible via the M-225 highway, near the viewing spot. From there, it’s about a 600-meter walk to the viewing spot.
To view the eclipse, it is essential to use certified glasses that meet the ISO 12312-2 standard. These glasses will be distributed free of charge on the day of the eclipse at the information booth while supplies last. But please note: having a confirmed spot for the event does not guarantee the availability of glasses.
Also, if you’re bringing children, they must be accompanied by an adult throughout the entire activity.
