From this Monday, January 27th, the fines in the Low Emission Zone (ZBE) of a municipality in the south of Madrid come into force. This is Getafe, which activates today its ZBE after last Friday 24 was approved and published in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid (BOCM).
After considering the whole of last year as a period of implementation and testing, during which all vehicles could circulate, today Phase 2 of the ZBE is launched, by which the restrictions to certain vehicles begin and will be maintained until December 31.
These are considered the most polluting vehicles (type A), which do not have a DGT sticker and do not reside in the ZBE. It will also affect type B vehicles from outside Getafe, “which will have to go to a public parking lot if they want to enter the ZBE”, says the Getafe City Council.
However, in the case of residents registered within the ZBE, their mobility will remain exactly the same regardless of the type of vehicle they drive. For those who come from outside, “Getafe has already begun the adaptation of 500 new parking spaces” just 100 meters from the boundary of the ZBE.
How much can the ZBE fines be?
In terms of the amount of fines for violating the measures, they amount to 200€, which will be 30% higher for repeat offenses. For more detailed information on issues such as the implementation schedule 2024-2030 or the application for permits for exceptions, please consult this web page.
In the case of Madrid, the City Council decided to postpone the sanctions until January 1, 2026.
What does the Getafe EPZ cover?
The perimeter of the Low Emission Zone is a little more than 1 square kilometer of the city center and is formed by: Ilustración Street, Madrid Street, Juan de la Cierva Avenue, M-406, Toledo Street, South Street, Ferrocarril Street and Paseo de la Estación (these streets are not affected by the ZBE).
