History of the Canalejas Building
The hotel occupies the former Palacio de la Equitativa, which opened in 1891 as the headquarters of the insurance company of the same name. Over time, the building became part of the current Canalejas Complex, the result of the merger of seven historic banking buildings. The renovation respected the building’s heritage value and preserved nearly 4,000 original features, as well as five safes (one of which was transformed into the hotel’s main entrance).
