Madrid can boast of having among its buildings some palaces that are true jewels of their time. Some of them also house museums inside, as is the case of the Palace of the Marquis of Cerralbo (Cerralbo Museum) or the Palacio del Parque Florido (Lazaro Galdiano Museum). And within this category of palaces that house museums can be added, too, the Palace of Liria.
It was in December 2022 when it opened to the public its first temporary exhibition, dedicated to the figure of Tutankhamun, and this 2025 it has become the place that houses one of the most outstanding exhibitions of the year: Flamboyant, by the Lisbon artist Joana Vasconcelos.
The expectation is proportional to the price of the rates to visit it: although this is one of the most emblematic palaces of Madrid, it is also one of the most expensive in the capital (the general ticket can be purchased from 23 € and, if the visit is guided, it amounts to 38 €). However, as in so many other cases, there is a specific schedule in which this museum can be visited for free, as well as reduced rates.
Free admission to the Palacio de Liria
The time when visits to this palace are free are on non-holiday Mondays in a single session: 10 am. Right now, on the occasion of the Vasconcelos exhibition, this free admission is the result of an agreement between the Palacio de Liria and the Madrid City Council.
Tickets at zero cost can only be purchased online, and go on sale a week in advance: to go it is necessary to book the previous Monday from 12h, which is when they are made available to the public through this link. The maximum number of tickets that can be purchased per person is two.
The other case in which tickets are free is for children under 6 years old.
Reduced admission to the Palacio de Liria
On the other hand, there are certain groups that can get their tickets for a reduced price. For this it will be necessary to show the corresponding supporting documentation:
- Students 17 to 25 years old
- Youth card
- Large families
- Unemployed
- Over 65 years old
- Teachers
- Official guides
- People with disabilities
- Press
- Mastercard holders
These discounts will only apply to free visits to the palace with access to the temporary exhibition. In the case of guided tours there will only be general rate (38 €) and free for children under 6 years. However, there is also the possibility of group visits with your own guide, in which case the entrance fee is 18 €.
You can find more details on the official website of the Palacio de Liria.
